I know my name isn't the most common . . .

August 27, 2006
. . .but am I the only one who wasn't shocked when Sumthin from 'Flavor of Love' real name was Tykeisha? After she got kicked off (which should have BEEN happened since she did #2 on herself on national television!!!) I just had to see what her real name was. And I got exactly what I expected which I know is stereotypical . . .but there is always truth in stereotypes .

Tiger = Brittany
Sumthin = Tykeisha

Im Back!!!

August 25, 2006
Today I say I'm Back! Back at school to kick off my fourth and final year of my Different World. And she's back too . . . my most favorite STAR, Miss Beyonce'

I've always thought she was a star! I have a confession though. I did hate on her a little this summer. After hearing some stories (including one of how she through fur coats on her and runs to the car while Jay strolls along) I started to think she was two-dimensional and maybe lacked depth. Even so, 'Deja Vu' remained my top jam this summer and after three soco lime shots you can just call me 'B'

Stopping by to say hello to the folks I use to intern for I was prepared to not to like "Ring the Alarm" after hearing how the focus groups supposedly hated it. Then it was played for me and I liked it. kind of. Then I saw the video. And was reminded why I am a Beyonce fan! I realized that my old boss might not have it felt b/c I thing only a woman can feel that emotion of making somebody a better person only for them to let there hardwork go to someone else (not that I do either but I can imagine:) And then today the DC radio stations went to war on who played "Freak 'em Dress" first so they both kept playing it and even played "Upgrade." I was happy as hell for there fight cuz my FM transmitter batteries died. I'm was loving the new Beyonce' that's more than being just happy and booty shaking.Because in relationships you are not always feeling all lovely and ish.

Last Beyonce confession. Though I fronted like I didn't want them to tell anybody, you know I was beaming on the inside when some random guy called me a 'Chocolate Beyonce' on the streets of NY in front of Michael and Whitney. My bandmates and club partners from the summer, Zex and J Blast knew I thought I was Beyonce b/c of how I acted when 'Deja Vu' came on but nobody other then them had called me that. So when a guy in the school of C called me Beyonce yesterday out of nowhere I once again was smiling hard!!!!!! So I am back and getting my Beyonce' on. I might even pull out the Freekum dress this weekend:) Bass.

-Queen (B that is)

****That pic is from the night that guy called me chocolate Beyonce'. And NO, you can't call me that!

Cheers to You!

If you get a second, check out Whitney's cute post on our summer. You know how us black females can't seem to get along so for a group of us to work together over the summer and really bond is nothing to take lightly. If you wondering why I only have one lens in that pic, miss fashion intern lost the lens somehow to my Stunna Shades #1. Hope she was more careful with the praaadaaaaa.

Summer . . .Farewell Forever (unless you teach)

August 19, 2006
Please. A moment of silence for my last week in Atlanta. My final summer has come and gone and the the last week was a good one! So let me go on and wrap it up. I did a little
Partying . . .
martini Monday at Justin's with Yasmine. Where we saw Ricki from New Edition (though I swore it was Ralph:) Had a brain fart. Nice crowd. We both agreed if we were 25 and single that's where we would be. After a drink we headed over to the Havanna Club were we stumble upon the skeezer convention. You have to check out her blog for the details on the strippers who came through doing all there tricks for free. They all were trying to be up in the face of one of the twins from Jagged Edge who was there.
A Family Affair
Going out with my family is always so much fun just to here the crazy stories. And I promise you I got you beat on the family stories. A uncle who got kicked off the deacon board for smoking weed by the baptismal board. Can you beat that? We are as different as all the many shades that we are (my mom's the one sitting across from me) At dinner where we stayed close to home and grabbed the cheddar biscuits at Red Lobster I realized I wasn't the only one my dad was telling all his business to. I heard more than I wanted to about the old man from my cousin which I promise you don't want to hear. The sentence in this: Long John Silver. (YUCK) . I had a good time that night at the party of a old high school buddy and ended it on a high - a banana smoothie from Tasti D-lite. Who knew they came to Atlanta???
speaking of family . . .
Pretty Babies
Is she not the cutest baby ever? I have a problem that when I see really cute brown babies I think they could have been mine. This is my hairdressers God grandbaby I guess (is that what they call it when your god child has a baby?) I still think Brad and Angelina somehow got Zahara from me. If money ever get real tight I might be that unidentified woman who says she's mine.
Take 'em to Church
If ever in Atlanta and looking for a church go by the church I've gone to my WHOLE life: Wheat Street Baptist Church over on Auburn Ave. On a 4th Sunday catch my mom in the gospel choir. they blow. She'll be the alto nodding during the sermon:) The church and the choir will be in the new Tyler Perry Movie so check em out. I was able to take this pic on the highway because that's how the traffic can be in the city. Gotta love Atlanta.

Education is So Very Sexy
I went by homie Ieesha's school on Bankhead and met her class. She has the lowest scoring of the school's third graders but is determined to get them on track. Teach for America really is a needed program. Just hope Paques and Tarjee (yes say it just like you say Target in bourgeois) don't burn her out and the kids are nice to Tacqunisha Bell down the hall. Those kids need all the help they can get. All they need is love . . .just like the rest of us.

So let me finish up packing before I head out in the morning for Richmond. Im riding solo for 8 hours so you know at the top of my long list of things to get is a FM transmitter so I can jam to my ipod. Hope I can get one for the low.

Summer '06 . . .Queen, Out.

She get it from her daddy!

August 15, 2006
I guess you heard the bad news. Cynthia McKinney lost. It should be illegal the way they change parties to kick her out at the primary, yet still go back home to the party to vote out the unsuspecting brother. The other news that's not good but not as bad is I talk too much. And not talking rambling. Im saying I give my life story to the chick sitting next to me on the bus. Its not a bad thing to be open. But you damn sure neeed to be selective in who you dish to . .. so you don't have that look of dumbfounded-ness (yes . . .its a word. . . now) when someone brings up something you didn't even tell them.
This past weekend I went to Grandma's house. She's not doing too hot. But she is getting better after having a spur taken off her spine and being diagnosed with diabetes in her mid 80s. Serious stuff. So on the way back me, my dad and my little sister are in the car when he starts talking about his girlfriend. While I was in NY I remember talking to him after the fourth and him being downright giddy over this lady and spending a lot of time with her and going to her church's revival and stuff.
My parents have been divorced basically all my life so I'm over the hopes of them getting back together, but I've never seen him like this. He was never like this over my sister's mom so this is new for me. He calls her. Makes plans for the three of us to have lunch the next day so I can meet her. If seeing my dad all excited over this lady isn't weird enough her name is Cynthia - just like my mom. On top of that my sister calls my mom 'Ms. Cynthia'. So now this second grader and my dad call my his friend her full name, Ms. Cynthia Doyle. comedy.

It was a transformation right before my eyes. My dad became a teenager. At his office before lunch he told me that he had an eye exam later that day. After a bad experience with his hard contacts in the 80s he got rid of them and never looked back. That is until now. He asked me all about mine and planned to ask his doctor about soft ones b/c he thought Cynthia Doyle might like them. With her office right around the corner we scooped her up and headed to lunch.
My dad's last few choices in women (including my sister's mom) have been less than stellar so I was really pleased with his selection. She has a lot in common with my mom too besides the name. Seeing his nose flair up when I took a pic of them was classic and made me excited for him. What also made me excited is this perfume he got me that is my new scent. 'Be Delicious' by Donna Karan. Makes me smell so yummy. Anyone smelled it? like it?
But back to what exactly I get from my daddy that can't be bought. The Too-Much-Info gene. As soon as she closes the door when we drop her back at work he says "She's really likes me, cant you tell?" And you know Im not going to make it easy on him so I ask 'what makes you think that?' So he launches into the FULL history of there few months relationship - including the fact that they kissed twice so far. So, if you ever wonder why I talk so damn much or tell all my bizness, now we both know.

Screaming to the top of my lungs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 8, 2006
That's what I'm doing right now. If your vote is your voice than I'm def yelling. After listening to my congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and her run-off opponent on the radio yesterday morning I was pumped and ready to utilize my most important American right - voting.
After taking my cousin to a job fair this morning, it wasn't until I picked him up and heard the reminder on the radio to vote that I remembered my right - my duty.
It felt good to cast my ballot and I wore my 'Im a Georgia Voter' sticker with pride! Black folks' relationship with voting is so important and its disrespectful to all those who fought and died not to use what they worked so hard for. I have this picture I copied from my asst. editor at work that was so powerful Ill have to put on here once Im back at school and get my printer/scanner hooked up. Its of three older south african women walking on a dirt road to vote for Nelson Mandela. On first glance they just look huddled and tired as they walk with house dresses and head scarves. On the 2nd glance you notice the two on the end are so huddled because they are carrying the older woman in the middle who only as one leg. Now they recognize that the vote really is your voice. So, excuse me as I scream and hope others join in!

The Summer 2006 Queen Awards

August 5, 2006
I've landed back in Atlanta (and as you can see immediately put my computer up:) I still don't know how I was lucky enough to get the best summer ever (and whisper up a prayer of thanks to some great-great-aunt who must have been the shit and I got to reap the reward!) Im sure you are tired of reading about how freakishly happy I am in these sappy posts, so I thought the official way to conclude my most perfect and first summer in NY would be to host the Summer 2006 Queen Awards!

And the winners are . . .

You and your beautiful Soul Award
Ziggy Marley for his charisma, a voice I could listen to ALL day and recruiting me to his religion - LOVE!

Breakout Drink of the Summer
Soco Lime shots!!!!!!!!
Though a close runner-up was Strawberry Pina Coladas at BBQs. Strong and cheap!

Best Bargin of the City
My Marc Jacob black and white sandals for under 50 bucks!!!!!!!

Biggest Disappointment
def that guy that didnt work out that I really sort of like. This other guy who I just enjoyed hanging out with sort of let me down to since he irked my nerves expecting me to cook on our first real date and sort of lying about his age. oh well, i guess if I had a perfect relationship right now my life would be to perfect. And as I always say you cant have it all. I gave up good eye sight to be smart and cute:)

Best Fight Fiasco
With my roommate. I know she just didnt tell me to be quiet then. But I handled that and ended on a high note. Its hard to take the high road. And I really do HATE baby voices and suprised my own self by never saying a word about it. Go me!

Best Advice
From my therapist, the one and only Susan Taylor. Breathe. You don't HAVE to have a boyfriend as you try and focus on your career right now. You will become your mother so respect her. Dreams come true!

Best Movie
Devil Wearing Prada!!!!!
but I guess since I only saw like 4 movies it wasnt that hard to win. Still waiting on Ash to give me my money back after I actually paid to go see Miami Vice knowing it would suck, but since she wanted to go so bad. It doesnt always feel good to be right.

Hot Spot of the Summer
Wish 26 on Thursday night!!!! I love seeing all the young progressive black people, something I was spoiled to see in Atlanta and missed in DC. I had a ball every time, they hooked us up with drink specials, more guys than girls (and well dressed cool guys coming straight from work and wearing the hell out of suits and ties)and the DJ ALWAYS played my song. Bass!

Finalist for for future boo!
Johnta Austin hands down. Though a lot of artist came through our doors and all wanted to "take R&B back" (though Avant and Bobby V have yet to convince me)Johnta got me and not just he from Atlanta:). First he looks nothing like the metro pics he has on his site and the tat on his lower arm is so very sexy. Maybe it goes to another thing I learned about myself that Im attracted to powerful men of all ages. And he is powerful with a pen having written Mariah's 'We Belong Together,' Toni's 'Just Be a Man about it,' Chris's 'Yo[excuse me miss] and at 16 he wrote Tyrese's 'Sweet Lady.' Aside from writing some of favorite jams he really was cool and had that DSGB vibe that I love and missed in the guys up north.

Runner up - Ziggy, just cuz of that voice but I know he's a little old to be dreaming about:)
Bottom of the list - Ray J

Ok. Time to unpack and wash clothes - something I am embarrsed to say I haven't done in like 3 weeks and am only doing because Im getting low on undies. once again, TMI?
Oh well Summer in NY was BEAUTIFUL. Work my ass off and proof to myself I can actually make it. Check. As the queen of 10:00 bedtimes stay up in a city that never sleeps. Check. Keep dancing the night away like my feet dont hurt. Check. Lunch with Mitzi. Check. Network, Network, Network. Check. Shop like someone else is paying. Check. Realize if the city is really for you and damn is it ever. Check. Find peace in knowing you'll be back next year. check
